Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions about getting free credit reports.

Is it true that I am legally entitled to one free credit report per year?

Yes, lawmakers recently amended the Fair Credit Reporting Act to require all three credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax) to provide consumers with one complimentary credit report every 12 months. You can also get free credit reports every time you dispute an item on your record and the bureau removes the questionable entry.

If I sign up on this site, will I immediately get free credit reports?

No, we do not offer free credit reports directly. Our job is to refer our visitors to our credit repair partners that can offer reports directly to customers. Once we have your sign-up information, we will send you to one of our affiliates to order your complimentary report immediately.

What kind of information will my credit report contain?

A credit report is a record of your payment behavior on your debts and other accounts. One section of your report will contain personal information, such as your name, current and past addresses, phone number, employer, etc. The next section will list a history of every account you've ever held. This section will reveal your outstanding balances, credit limits, payment record, and account ages. If you have any legal judgments against you, such as a bankruptcy of foreclosure, your credit report will also disclose this information. The final section of the report will show any inquiries made about your credit within the last two years. An inquiry means a prospective or current lender pulled your credit report to review your current standing.

Are credit reports from your affiliates really free?

When you get free credit reports from one of our affiliates, you will receive certain services in addition to your free reports. Most of our credit partners offer free trial memberships in these services for the first few days. You will receive your credit reports for no charge as long as you cancel your membership before the free-trial period expires.

What other services do you partners offer besides free credit reports?

Our credit partners allow you to do much more than just get free credit reports. They also can help you if you're interested in credit monitoring services. Credit monitoring helps you stay on top of changes in your credit score and identify potential problems early before they become more serious. Additionally, most of our affiliates provide credit repair services to help you clean up your credit report and maximize your credit score. We actually have a page all about optimizing your credit report if you want to get a head start.
